Business Meets Humor…Here’s a Sticky Note that Rocks!

How do your sticky notes measure up? Do they share information, prompt some smiles and also start people talking?

I must admit, I’d never thought of sticky notes as much more than a way to temporarily hold or share information, until this one arrived.

I had to chuckle when I opened my mail one day last year and found the note pictured here. It was stuck to the front of a book I had ordered.

The author, Matt Keenan, writes hilarious, heart-warming columns for our local Kansas City Star newspaper.

He writes about family life, and often shares stories about the joys, sorrows, challenges and comedy associated with parenting teenagers (3 sons, 1 daughter).

In fact, his newest book title reflects his content quite accurately. It’s called, Call Me Dad, Not Dude…The Sequel (Surviving the perils of parenting, one teen at a time).

As a regular reader of his columns, I have a suspicion that his boys helped inspire some of the bullets on the top of the note. Examples include:

  • SOMETHING SMELLS
  • CHECK YOUR TEETH
  • YOU’RE TOO LOUD

As a family with three boys, these phrases can be heard at our house too. I’m just glad that Matt saw fit to check the box, “YOU ROCK”, on my note.

My thanks go out to Matt for this great reminder that something as mundane as a sticky note can be transformed into a humorous conversation starter.

“Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing.” William James (American pyschologist)

Question: How could you add some “chuckle” to someone’s day, prompt some smiles and get people talking?
